I am love,
Man’s link with sanity.
I pity and pray for those who put their hearts in cold storage.
I am a liberator, a friend, a teacvher, a guide, a part of God.

I am union.
Welding a marriage.
Blessing a friendship.
Healing hearts and heartaches.
Binding multiple personalities into one.

I am a giant.
All other emotions are pygmies before my girth and greatness.
When and where I rule, the world is a better place to live.

"[Let your] love be sincere (a real thing); hate what is evil [loathe all ungodliness, turn in horror from wickedness], but hold fast to that which is good." (Romans 12: 9)

There is an old Chinese proverb that reads, “A diamond cannot be polished without friction nor man perfected without trials.”

The Apostle Paul put it yet another way, “Trouble produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope.”

When Paul wrote these words he did not write them from some ivory tower. Indeed,
just before this quote he says “Five times received I forty stripes save one, thrice was I beaten with rods.”

Ludwig Van Beethoven conducted his famous Ninth Symphony, the audience stood and rocked the theater with their applause. Ludwig Van Beethoven, however, heard neither the music nor the applause because by this time he was stone deaf.

When three year old Louis Braille blinded himself while boring holes with an awl in his father’s harness shop, it seem a senseless tragedy. However, because Braille was blind, the blind have been able to read now for over 100 years.

Helen Keller born deaf, dumb and blind said, “Thank God for my handicaps, for through them I have found myself, my work and my God.”

Once, two men in Charles Reade’s book THE CLOISTER AND THE HEARTH were shown walking through a troubled Europe. One man continually turns to the other says, “Courage my friend, the devil is dead.”

A better tonic for the soul might well have been the words, “Courage my friend, God is alive.”

That is the gospel my friends. It does not deny problems. It asserts faith. It comes to you in your darkest moment of doubt and says, “Come unto Me all ye that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you peace.”

The Bible says, “God commandeth His love toward us, in t5hat while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Yes, I am aware that there are those who kill but there are also those who heal. I know there are storms but there are also sunsets. I know there is pain but there is also the pleasure of being comforted.

I do not know why God made earth like it is, or why there had boe an Eden from which was thrust or why there have been wars and rumors of wars since time first was.

But I do know this…inside every person God set a soul. He put within us greed and graciousness, sin and sainthood; all kind of evil and all manner of good…and then He made man free.

And I believe it was God’s love Who did all these things.

In the stage play GREEN PASTURES, God is kind of like a master chef at a gigantic fish fry…a cosmic bellhop ready to respond to every summons.

But such a God would not truly be a loving God. If all I had to do was to say, “God, let it rain and it rained…or God, let the sun shine and the sun shone…or God, Let Joe die and Mike live…If my prayer had literally the power of life, death and creation, God would not be a God of love…

He would be a foolish God listening to the foolish whims of a foolish man. I do not want that kind of God…I want a God…just, kind, loving, who with understanding holds me back after a prayer and says, “Not now my child, not now…I know best…believe it…not now.”

Let me close with a quote from a book entitled PEACE OF MIND.

“Men, men, I gave you an earth ribbed with veins of diamonds, and bold and black with frozen heat. I gave you strong and dynamic waters to drive your windmills and make your turbines hum with power. I gave you rich loam upon which you could grow waving wheat. What have you done? My coal often you have stolen, leaving only the slag for the oor. My diamonds, my gold, my living waters, you have imprisoned behind the walls of your selfish greed. Because you refused to use my gifts in order to build a just earth, you have been forced to spend gold like water for ships blown up in the twinkling of an eye. You have seen you cities ruined and your precious sons annihilated on a thousand battlefield. Now, at last, the intelligence which I have implanted in you, on race of man, has fashioned the key to unlock My treasure house of energy. Within the secret heart of my atoms is the power of life and death for all of you. O men, will you this time chose weapons of death or tools of life; unconditional destruction or unconditional survival?’

You see, this God of love is not just a God to worship or belie in…or turn to in time of need…He is a God to apprehend, to take unto yourself, to imitate by how you act, and what you are, and what you are becoming.

Men who hate do not know such a God. Men who burns crosses or shout curses or make a hell of earth in all the ways that it is possible do ot know such a God.

The Bible states I clearly,
1 John 4:8
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

An old hermit who lived far out in the wilderness and whose only company was himself was visited one day by some of the devils spirits.

It was their assigned and dedicated task to tempt him in such a way he could not resist whatever sin they chose to set upon him.

They did not go unprepared.

But they failed and sulked back into hell to receive from the devil a tongue lashing,
your methods are crude and stupid and it is little wonder you failed. I suppose I will have to show you myself.”

And so the big devil decided on the sin he would set before the old hermit in such a way he would have no chance to ward it off.

He had been with the old hermit less than a second when he whispered in his ear, “Have you heard the good news? Your brother has been made Bishop of Alexandria.”

Jealousy is a giant that can squeeze our soul shut of all compassion and concern.

Whoever envies another confesses his superiority. ~Samuel Johnson, The Rambler
James 3:16

For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice

There are dozens of Edison stories worth the telling. This is one of them.

It seems that to enter the grounds to his homes, you had to push open a large clumsy gate that took quite a bit of exertion to open.

One of his friends, ventured to ask Edison one day why he didn’t do something about it, get a new gate, something lighter, make it easier to open.

With a twinkle in his eye, Mr. Edison replied, “Come with me. I want to show you something.”

He then showed him how the big gate was geared-in with a pumping contraption and said, “You see, everyone who comes to see me and opens or shuts the gate automatically pumps a gallon of water into a tank on my roof.”

Adversity is like that. It can pump strength into the reservoir of your soul.

“We acquire the strength we have overcome.” Wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson

“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” ~Proverbs 23:7

When Edison discover the phonograph when he was trying to invent the light bulb, that was “Serendipity.”

When three men chanced upon a powerful weed-killer when they were trying to develop a new fertilizer that was “Serendipity.”

When Columbus stumbled across America when he was looking for a new route to Asia, that was the granddady of all “Serendipity.”

When Jesus said, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God..and all these (other) things shall be added unto you,” this was what might be called “Spiritual Serendipity.”

In the city of Miami, there is a certain executive who once was an alcoholic in a jail in New Orleans. He sought God. He found himself. Spiritual Serendipity.

There is an old saying, “You must search to find, but not to find what you are searching for.”

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
—John 14:27

As I watched him I could see the tension in his face and how he held his body and I thought of something I just read by a Dr. Julian Lake.

The good doctor had set up two groups; in the first group were people who were unable to relax and in the second group were those who were relatively free from tension.

They discovered that the tense people had one thing in common which was not prevalent among the relaxed group --- they were all extremely critical of others.

It’s really quite simple.

When you love your neighbor and make an effort to at least understand he or she even if they are not acting neighborly, you feel better.

If you are always finding fault when your complaint is at best a costly and shriveled thing your body responds in like kind.

Ah, my friends…

There is so much good
In the worst of us,
And so much bad in the best of us,
That it hardly behooves any of us,
To talk about the rest of us.

An old friend of mine once shared a favorite prayer he often prayed…

“Lord, fill my mouth with proper stuff,
And nudge me when I’ve said enough.”

Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment that you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, "Let me take the speck out of your eye," when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.
Christianity. Matthew 7.1-5

There is a story often told around campfires and in the more sterile atmosphere of church classrooms and from pulpits. It is an oft repeated tale because there is so much spiritual muscle in it.

Once…on the border of the Empire of Cyrus there lived a great chieftain called Cagular who destroyed great detachments of the army of Cyrus.

Finally the emperor massed a great army that marched down and defeated Cagular and all his forces,

After his defeat, Cagular, his noble wife and two children stood in the court of Cyrus awaiting sentences.

The emperor began to question this tall stately man who had made war on his forces.

“Cagular,” he asked, “What would you do if I spared your life?”

“Your majesty.” He replied, “If you spared my life I would return to my home and remain your obedient servant for the rest of my life.”

“And what,” queried the ruler, “would you do if I spared the lives of your children?”

Instantly Cagular said, “If you spared the lives of my children I would gather my scattered horde, place your banner above their heads and lead them to victory for you on any field.”

The Emperor was impressed and so finally he asked, “And what Cagular, would you do if I spared the life of your wife?”

“Cagular drew himself up to his full six feet of manhood and replied, “For that sir, I would die for you.”

So moved was the emperor that he freed them all and returned Cagular to his province there to act as governor thereof.

As Cagular and his wife made their way back to their home he turned to her and said, “Did you notice the marble at the entrance to the palace…the different colors matching with one another and the figures carved so perfectly?”

“No,” was her simple reply, “I did not notice.”

“Well, certainly you noticed the tapesty on the walls as we went down the corridor into the throne room?”

“No, I did not notice.”

“Well,” Cagular asked, “What in heavens name did you notice?”

At this question, his wife looked up into his eyes with all the love a woman can have for a man and said, “I will tell you, my husband, what I noticed. I noticed the man who said he would die for me.”

Commitment. Love. Devotion. To the Lord who linked with prophecy by the manger miracle.

Who gave new meaning to the herenow and the hereafter,

Who made the cross once a symbol of shame and symbol of heavenly sacrifice.

And we are asked to live for Christ…few us ever being asked to die for Christ…

O Lord of hosts, blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts in You [leaning and believing on You, committing all and confidently looking to You, and that without fear or misgiving]! Psalm 84: 12

Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed. Proverbs 16: 3

We love Him because He first loved us (1 Jn. 4:19).
