      FAILURE IS EASY TO COME BY

      It isn’t difficult to fail in this adventure called life.  All one has to do is follow these daily dozen…

1.                Spend all your time planning but never doing.

2.                Try to do three things all at once.

3.                Don’t keep after a job until it is finished.

4.                Don’t make a priority list.

5.                Or…waste your time making one and then conveniently misplacing it.

6.                Waste the time of day that you are at your best.

7.                Don’t make deadlines.

8.                Never do first what you don’t want to do but know you should do or have done.

9.                Chase other people’s dreams while calling them your own.

10.          Never ask for help.

11.          Work hard at being disorganized.

12.          Read these suggestions and diligently follow them.

      SOME MOMENTS WITH MEANING 

Go out today and do something you haven’t done in a long time, if ever.  Read at least fifty lines from the lips of your Lord.  Pray at least five minutes for others without one prayer for yourself.  Call some enemy and try to make he or she a friend. Think on someone you dislike and try to write down about them at least two good points.

  Forget and forgive some hurt that has festered in your soul, making you and the recipient two miserable people.

I have not always lived in these southern climes. I was born in Virginia where we had attics and I thought them a treasure trove, filled with all kind of wonderful things of our families past.

But like most attics there were things saved that could best have been thrown away.

And I got to thinking. The same thing is true of the attic of our minds.

Indeed, got any old hates lying around rotting in the shadows? Got any old jealousies all shined and bright and deadly? Got any sins you have never brought out into the bright light of God’s forgiveness”

The attic of the mind can certainly store a lot…a lot more than our rather large attic was capable of storing…but like the attic of my childhood days…not everything is worthy of being saved.

      PATIENCE

      It is worth its weight in a million shining stars and a billion timeless tomorrows.  It is something you never completely have, but briefly hold, and by prayer and perseverance keep for a time 

      It is an elusive blessing, and the right to claim it as your own is a right you must daily earn: by training your heart to have compassion and your mind to bridle impatience when it seems so eager to come to call.

      Patience?  It is believing in tomorrow whatever it brings, bending with today whatever it gives and seeking to understand yesterday no matter what it gave.

In the stage play “Green Pastures” God is pictured as a kind of master chef at a gigantic fish-fry, or cosmic bell-hop to respond to every human summons. Perhaps the idea intrigues you, but think about it.

Suppose you could say “God let it rain,” and it did. Or “Let the sun shine” and it shown. Or “Let Joe die” and “Let Mike live.” Suppose that if by prayer you literally had the power of life and death…then God would not be a God of love and wisdom.

He would rather be a foolish God listening to the foolish contradictory prayers of you and me without restraint. It is why it is so important that a part of our every prayer are the words “Thy will be done.”

It marks our prayers with the humility they must always be prayed with.

Psalm 37:7
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.

A  stranger not use to the custom, approached a dog-leg hole and argued when the caddy suggested a different club than he had called for and a different approach to the tee.

The caddies reply was a classic, “Sir, you may use whichever club you wish and shoot in whichever direction you desire. I am only suggesting how to play in order to win the hole.

The Bible is so full of good advice and so many pass it by so many times. And play the game of life badly and end up in sand traps and thickets and behind trees and end up with more bogies than birdies.

And for those of you who have no idea how golf is scored...let it be said that a bogie is bad and a birdie is good.
