The best gift you can give to this ole world is the kind of person other people can love.
How to do this?
Be selfless rather than selfish. Selfish people are not attractive people.
Stop being judgmental. People who are constantly finding fault with other people are not giving the world a gift or rather they are giving the world a gift the world could easily do without.
Don’t make the world revolve around you…opera singers singing “Me…Me…Me” cause other people to do unlovely things and then there are two unlovely people.
Arrogant people are usually angry people because they never get enough attention for who they think they are…or think they deserve it…in short, you want to give the world the gift of a lovely person…give up arrogance.
Be an exceptional person which is easier to say than to do.
Nevertheless let me call attention to the movie DEAD MAN WALKING. In that movie a despicable unrepentant murderer is about to be executed…and sister Helen Prejean offering pastoral care says to him, “I want the last face you see in this world to be the face of love, so you look at me when they do this thing. I’ll be the face of love for you.”

“And walk in love, [esteeming and delighting in one another] as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us…” Ephesians 5: 2

ONE IDIOT, COMING UP

A teacher looked out over her class of very young children and said,” I am an atheist and how many of you are atheist?”
Her children were too young to know what she meant so in an attempt to please her, as young children are want to do, they all raised their hands.
Except for one.
“Why didn’t you raise your hand?” the teacher angrily asked.
“Because I know what an atheist is and I’m a Christian?
”Why are you a Christian?” came back the reply.
“Because my mother and father are Christians.”
“You mean to tell me,” said the teacher,” You are a Christian just because that is what your mother and father are? What would you be if they were idiots?
”I’d be an atheist.”
I took religion in High School and at the time I didn’t even know it. But thinking back I realize that when I painted a landscape I was simply painting beauty that God had painted before me.
Or…
I like the way Robert Bault put it, “If Creation were a crime, would not God be the prime suspect?”

QUOTES FROM TOMORROWS BLOG entitled COMMANDMENTS VS. OPINIONS

The 19th-century English writer Harriett Martineau was an atheist.
One day she was walking with a friend and enjoying the glories of a beautiful fall morning when suddenly she burst out, "Oh, I'm so grateful!"
Her Christian friend replied, "Grateful to whom, my dear?"
God has given you life which is made up of increasingly smaller amounts of time. How many of these minute minutes do you give to God in prayers of gratitude?
Unexpressed gratitude really isn’t gratitude now is it?

"Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” Psalm 100:3

OUTLOVED OR OUTLIVED

He was an old codger and he was bragging.
And it is a distinct shame what he was bragging about, “I don’t have an enemy in the world.” He paused and then continued, “Because I outlived them all.”
How much it would have been if he could have said, “I out loved them all.”
Who have you out loved recently?
How recently have you taken a mountain of bitterness and turned it into a mountain of forgiveness.
What residue from your way of living lies in the valley below these two mountains?
Do you have a mother, father, sister, brother or friend you have not spoken to for years and do not plan on ever speaking to again?
Call them…write them…NOW…now does not live forever…
Have you ever been forgiven? How did it feel?
Was it like some great hand stopped squeezing your heart?
The guilt, the fear, the blame all swept away by that other person’s gift of compassion and understanding?
An agnostic once shouted at a preacher, “What did Christ do for Stephen when he was stoned?”
And the instant reply, “He gave him the strength to forgive.”

He who covers and forgives an offense seeks love, but he who repeats or harps on a matter separates even close friends. Proverbs 17: 9

When we were children we were grateful to those who filled our stockings at Christmas time. Why are we not grateful to God for filling our stockings with legs? ~G.K. Chesterton

The man had just been told he had rabies. The doctor knew he had to calm what he was sure would be the man’s fears. “This does not mean you are going to die. There is a cure for rabies.”
He was not prepared for the man’s response. ”Oh, I know that. I’m just making a list in my head of all the people I am going to bite.”
And yes there is that old cliché’ by which too many live, “Don’t get mad. Get even.”
Nothing could be more counterproductive….because…
Vengeance is a meal best eaten cold because to put warmth to it would kill it and it never really wants to die.
It is the play mate of the narrow minded and the cruel.
He or she who drinks of vengeance thinks they will be refreshed by it but eventually find that it is full of salt and then they have a thirst that cannot be quenched.
Mahatma Ghandi put it well when he said “An eye for an eye would make the whole world blind.”

FAITH AND FAITHLESSNESS

George Sterling was one of America’s greatest poets.
He had fame and friends.
At age 56, he committed suicide.
It was inevitable. His friend Upton Sinclair said of his thinking, “George believed the universe is running down like a clock, and in some millions of years the earth will be dead and cold. He often mused,” So what difference does it make what we poor insects do?”
Contrast that with the old country woman whose husband had died and whose sons had moved away.
Living 5 miles from town on a farm, she often told her neighbors, “
I guess I get lonesome now and then, but I always solve the problem by remembering I got Jesus.”
And there it is... taking hold of nothingness or the handle of faith.
Indeed, deny the Fatherhood of God, the love of Christ and the meaning behind creation and you’ll know a special and terrible loneliness the rest of your earthly days.
That little ole lady on the farm…not faithless but rather her faith an oasis.
She had completely cast her lot with God and the angels and wore the comforting of it well.
“Faith is like radar that sees through the fog.”
Corrie Ten Boom

John 14:27
I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn't fragile like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid. (From the Living Bible)
